The excavation, which has experienced a significant first episode from 1987 to 1990, was taken after a long break in 2001. Since 2005 the research was carried out in collaboration with the University of New York and Syracuse in Florence and the University of North Carolina at Asheville.
After over ten years of excavations, the history of the site is outlined in detail. Already popular with the Etruscans, it was permanently occupied after the founding of the colony of Lucca in 180 BC, when, along one of many Auser branches that covered the eastern sector of the plain, rose a broken down farm into a productive part, equipped with facilities and equipment for pressing the grapes (pars rustica) and a residential area for the family of the owner (pars urbana) .
The complex has experienced exceptional continuity of life through various stages of restructuring and building up to be depleted in late antiquity, and even Middle Ages.
